About
Atari is an American-based video game developer and publisher. The company one of the few others to form the video game industry as we know it today. History The company was founded on June 27th, 1972. It originally focused on developing arcade machines, such as the original Pong. In 1975, the company decided to bring arcade machines to home and starts development of Atari 2600 as well as games for it. Things went well until the video game industry crash in 1982 when Atari released E.T. and Pac-Man for 2600. After 1982, the company focused on the home computer market with the release of Atari ST. The brand was purchased by Infogrames from Hasbro in 2001. Atari became a video game publisher. However, it went bankrupt on January 20th, 2013. Operations Most of the games published by Atari were its own ones for Atari 2600, 5200, ST, and Jaguar. After its purchase by Infogrames, the company published several titles, such as Alone in the Dark, Driver, and Test Drive Unlimited.
